It’s a dream of every woman to be beautiful and   charming on their wedding  day. To make wedding a memorable and life long experience no doubt, jewelry is an important aspect. Wedding jewelry is a symbol of love, commitment and dedication that her parents, in- laws and husband have for her.
 
 
 
 
This blog is an attempt to have an overview of  bridal jewelry of Bangladesh  as in Bengali wedding, jewelry is not mere ornamentation but also an investment or security.

 1. Shonar Mukut- The Crown


The golden crown adds elegance and a royal touch to the bride wearing it on the head. The mukut can be artificial also as it is not worn too much after  the wedding. 

 

 

 2. Tikli and Tiara

Tikli or Maangtika is a very common bridal jewelry. A pendant is suspended from a chain and is worn in the hair parting .Nowadays it can be worn for any traditional ritual so it is good to have in gold as you are likely to wear it on many occasions.

Tiara adorns the forehead of the bride. Three strands of chain are interlocked with a pendant hanging in the middle.

 

 3. Nolok-The Nath

 

Many brides wear it for a traditional elegant look. It is a large nose ring with a delicate chain that hooks onto the hair. Dainty floral designs in recent times have given them a modern look.

 



4. Kaanbala, Kaan Pasha and Jhumka-For the adornment of ears

Kaanbala is an earring which resembles the shape of an ear covering the entire ear.

Kaanpasha is a large gold,full-bodied stud that covers up the entire ear lobe with its ornate design.

 

Jhumka

 

 

Universal Jhumka is a big, bold dangling earrings which is treasured by brides all over the country !

 

5. Chick- The choker

 

Broad choker gold necklace is worn just above the collar bone of the neck. Its width varies between 1-1.5 inches and its beauty lies in its intricate and fine craftsmanship.

 

 

 

6. Sathnali Haar- The Layered Necklace


 

As the name suggest it is a seven layered gold necklace passed from one generation to the next.

 

 

 

7. Ratanchur- The Haathphool

 

Ratanchur embellishes the bride’s hand. It is a large round pendant at the centre and 3-4 strings coming out of it and attached to rings and bangles.

  



8. Chur and Bala- The Bangles


Chur is a gold broad single piece bangle worn on one hand. Bala or kada is thick gold bangles usually worn in pairs. The  intricate designs are their signature.

  


9. Jhapta

 

It is attached to the left side of the hair on the left side of the head by a single hook. It enhances the beauty of the bride.

10. Ananta orBaajubandh– The armlet


A gold armlet with intricate lacework and anadjustable chainis a fine piece of jewelry which adds another dimension to the traditional attire. 

 

 

 

 

11. Kamarbandh 


waist ornament adorned with floral motifs that are carved in gold.





12. Shakha, Pola and Noa – The three Bengali bangles

Shakha is the white bangle made from conch shell.

Pola is the red coral bangles. These two are worn by the bride during Nandi much at the wedding day.

Noa is a gold plated iron bangle gifted to the bride by her mother-in-law once she enters her new home. These three bangles marks the identity of a married Bengali woman.

 

 

13. Nupur- The anklet

 

This piece of jewelry is the hottest choice of many brides. It is usually made of silver, gold or kundan setting stones with a single string. Broader anklet with dangling beads are also in fashion.
